Traffic conditions give visitors first impressions of Guangzhou. Guangzhou has introduced a BRT system to make public transport a more convenient option for its people and visitors. The most important feature of BRT is the 'bus way' which gives the bus uninterrupted right of way and provide a subway-like level of service and speed.

The first line was put into operation on February 2010, and the BRT corridor measures 22.9 kilometers long connecting Xiayuan of Luogang District in the east of Guangzhou, Huangpu Road, Zhongshan Avenue and Tianhe Sports Center. one of the main stadiums for 2010 Asian Games. It consists of 26 median-aligned BRT stations.

Guangzhou BRT boasts the first one to include direct physical connections between BRT stations and metro stations. During 2010 Asian Games, the Communication Commission employed 43 temporary BRT lines near 15 stadiums and another 9 lines connecting metro stations as well as put more than 1000 buses into service to connect every metro station in Guangzhou, creating a traffic network stretching in all directions.
