The boat race during the Dragon Boat Festiva（May 5th on the lunar calendar) is a traditional custom that aims to protect people from evil and disease for the rest of the year. 

Contestants from nearby towns and villages gather in the Guangzhou Pearl River on that day aiming to be first. 

The winner will be rewarded with Golden Roasted Pig and bonus money.Guangzhou hosts an international dragon boat racing tournament every year,attracting hundreds of contestants from home and abroad.
