It’s a folk festive activity unique to Conghua, which embodies the wish and pursuit of the people of Conghua for a happy life. The villages on both banks of Conghua Creek are the places where this traditional festive activity of Guangzhou has been best preserved. The activity has been passed down to date since the Ming and Qing dynasties. “Colored basket” implies good luck and auspicious signs. Around the Lantern Festival each year, this activity will be held at the villages of Conghua, and relatives and friends and neighbor villagers will come to watch the activity. Previously, colored basket was woven with bamboos and paper, wrapped with fuse and mounted with all kinds of little objects. Nowadays the colored basket is a flower basket filled with various fireworks and firecrackers, which is very colorful and gorgeous.
