The Museum of Folk Craftwork of Guangdong was established at the Chen Clan Academy in 1959. The Chen ClanAncestral Hall, completed in the 19th year in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing dynasty (1893), is an ancestral hall built with funds contributed by the Chen Clan distributed across Guangdong during the Qing dynasty. In 1988, it was announced as a cultural relic under national protection. Honored as a “pearl of Lingnan architectural art”, the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall integrates all sorts of construction and decoration crafts and techniques such as wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, pottery sculpture, iron and copper casting and color painting. It is currently the largest, best-preserved and most beautifully decorated ancestral hall in China.
